Category 2/3 Grand Prix

QUALIFYING INFORMATION

Registration for the Category 2/3 Race is free. All of the below criteria must be met in order to qualify for the start list:

  • Must have current USAC license to register
  • Must be a licensed USAC category 2/3 rider by Sept 1, 2010 ***NO EXCEPTIONS***
  • Must register online via “register here” link provided below through the Active Network
  • Must create a personal fundraising page through Active Network
  • NOTE: Further info and links will be provided in registration confirmation email
  • First 150 registered participants to raise $600 will be added to the official start list
  • Purchase Official Event T-shirt

  • Start list will be updated every 24 hours to reflect registered riders who have qualified to start
    Once the start list is full, a waiting list will be created
  • Waiting list will rank top fundraisers, updated once per week, closing August 31, 2010
  • NOTE: Registration date will not effect ranking
  • On September 7, 2010 the official wait list will be posted at txtgrandprix.org
  • Riders on the wait list will be contacted, in order, up to 48 hours before the race and invited to start if any eligible rider currently on the start list is unable to race

Note: You are NOT required to be a USAC category 2/3 rider to register. You must have a valid license, and have until Sept 1, 2010 to upgrade to category 2/3. Licenses will be verified on Sept 1, 2010. No exceptions. If you have not received your upgrade by Sept 1, 2010 and you have qualified for the official start list, you will be removed and replaced with the first person on the waiting list.

The first 150 registered riders to raise $600 will qualify to start in the 2/3 race.

A fundraising page will be created for you when you register for the race through Active.com.
On the campaign page in the upper header you may enter a rider’s first and/or last name and search for their page to make a donation toward their goal.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Crowds will line the streets of Victory Park to see top TX Tough fundraisers race counter clockwise around American Airlines Center and the posh W-HOTEL in downtown Dallas. The course is a 1500-meter loop featuring smooth, wide, fast roads and an atmosphere unparalleled anywhere in North America.

The START/FINISH is located across from the WFAA Channel 8 Studios at the intersection of Houston and Olive Street. Riders begin by heading north up a slight hill past the Victory Tavern and Old No. 7 bar making the first of (4) left turns onto All-Star Way.

Traveling less than 150 meters along the north side of the AAC, riders make their next turn onto Victory Ave and head south. With a slight downhill, the race will see speeds in excess of 50mph before turning onto Museum Way. This takes the riders thru the heart of Victory Park and with less than 800 meters to the finish, riders will want to be geared up for the incredible finale. Out of the final turn back onto Houston Street, riders have a clear view of the finish. The final sprint features a 600-meter straight (3-lanes wide) with a slight downhill running thru the finish line.

FREE laps end with 5 laps to go. Neutral wheel support is provided by MERCURY BICYCLE PRODUCTS / TX TOUGH GRAND PRIX Staff.

PACKET PICK-UP

Located at the TX TOUGH on-site office in Victory Plaza by the Start/Finish area. The office will be open Wednesday, September 15th from 5PM – 8:30PM and on Thursday, September 16th at 3PM – 4:450PM. Cat 2/3 packet pick-up closes 45 minutes prior to the start of the category 2/3 race beginning at 5:30PM on race day (Thursday, September 16th 2010).

Racers must present a valid USA Cycling license and sign the rider release before receiving their bib number.

ALL USAC RULES APPLY

USA Cycling permit pending. ALL riders are required to wear an approved helmet, securely fastened at all times while on the bike. Event will be held rain or shine.

From AUSTIN: Head north on I-35E to Dallas. EXIT Victory Avenue (you will see the American Airlines Center on your right). Turn right and parking will be available in the north parking lots of the AAC off of Victory Avenue.

From HOUSTON: Head North on I-45 to Dallas. Take Woodall Rogers Freeway West (toward I-35E). EXIT Field Street (if you get to I-35E you have gone to far). Turn right going north on Field Street to Olive Street. Turn left onto Olive and you will be directed to Event Parking in the north parking lots of the AAC.

From OKLAHOMA: Head south on I-35E to Dallas. EXIT Continental Avenue (you will see the American Airlines Center on your left). Turn left on Continental Avenue. Continue on Continental Avenue under Woodall Rogers Freeway to Mckinney Avenue (DO NOT try and turn onto Houston St. because it will be CLOSED at High Market Street and there will be no thru traffic except for W-Hotel guests and residents). Turn left on Mckinney heading northeast to Field Street. Turn left on Field Street heading north. Turn left onto Olive Street and you will be directed to Event Parking in the north parking lots of AAC.

From DFW Airport: EXIT the DFW Airport south and head east on 183/Airport Freeway. Continue east to 114/John Carpenter Freeway and head south. This merges with I-35E. Head south on I-35E and EXIT Continental Avenue (you will see the American Airlines Center on your left). Turn left on Continental Avenue. Continue on Continental Avenue under Woodall Rogers Freeway to Mckinney Avenue (DO NOT try and turn onto Houston St. because it will be CLOSED at High Market Street and there will be no thru traffic except for W-Hotel guests and residents). Turn left on Mckinney heading northeast to Field Street. Turn left on Field Street heading north.
